Message:
I was given some walnut sherry once a few years back at a party here in San Diego and was told by the woman sharing it that she had purchased it at a winery in Temecula at a vineyard after tasting some in their tasting room. I have wanted some more every since, but have never been able to find any in any store in whcih I've looked in different places in a few states here on the west coast. I find none through any search engine putting in subject line "Temecula CA walnut sherry" either. Does anyone there, or anywhere for that matter, know of such a product, winery, and/or where I might purchase some of this most delicious sherry?

Most Sherry will have a flavor of either walnut or hazelnut ..

TYPES OF SHERRY
Fino: Pale straw color, light and dry with an aromatic nose, hinting of almonds and limestone, and a crisp tang to the palate imparted by the flor.
Manzanilla: Similar to Fino but produced exclusively around the town of Sanlucar, it has more flor components and a penetrating salty taste and aroma.
Amantillado: If you age a Fino in cask, or refresh the solera less often, or let the scales run slower, you make Amantillado. Full bodied, dry or medium dry in texture, amber colored with flavors reminiscent of hazelnut with the tangy cut of flor.
Palo Cortado: A rare Sherry styled between an Amantillado and Oloroso.
Oloroso: Softer and more mellow then Amantillado, it ranges from dry to sweet. Dark gold or amber in color with the nutty flavor of walnuts.
Cream Sherry: An oloroso that is sweetened with PX wine.
Pedro Ximinez and Moscatel: Sweet and concentrated, PX wines are dark and taste like a blend of prunes and espresso coffee while Moscatels taste like an amalgam of dried fruits.

Not all the wineries in the Temecula Valley have Sherry on their winelist.

I noticed that Maurice Car'rie Vineyard & Winery listed Sherry on their web site.

http://www.mauricecarriewinery.com/list.htm

I also saw that Thornton also has Sherry wine.

(I love Thornton champagne and their bar-b-que dinner. (Pricey but worth the special occastion)

You can either call Temecula Winery Association, perhaps they can help you.

Telephone: 909-699-6586

Perhaps in a few years, we can provide some Walnut Sherry for you ...
Good luck.
