Welcome to the SCGA Member's Club
A Robert Trent Jones Design

Few people in the history of building golf courses have achieved the kind of legendary status accorded Robert Trent Jones, Sr., designer of The SCGA Members’ Club at Rancho California.
Perhaps the first person who consciously studied to become a golf course architect, Jones has designed many of the world’s most famous courses, including nearly a dozen layouts in Southern California.

His two sons, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and Rees, have also become famous golf course architects.

Born in 1906, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. became in 1930 a partner with Stanley Thompson, the famous Canadian golf course architect who designed Jasper Park Lodge and Banff Springs Hotel. During his career of more than 60 years, he has designed hundreds of courses throughout the world and remodeled hundreds more.

Among his most famous designs are Spyglass Hill GC in Pebble Beach (one of three courses used during the PGA Tour’s AT&T National Pro-Am), and the original 18 holes at Mauna Kea Beach in Hawaii. With Mauna Kea, Jones launched the Hawaiian golf boom that continues to this day; Jones’ Queens Course is now under construction at Mauna Kea.

In addition to The SCGA Members’ Club at Rancho California, Jones’ local designs include Birnam Wood GC, Santa Barbara; Calabasas Golf & CC; Mission Viejo CC; Pauma Valley CC; Spring Valley Lake CC, Victorville; Tecolote Canyon GC, San Diego; and Valencia CC. He has also remodeled several SCGA clubs during his career including, perhaps most notably, El Caballero CC.
